Chaileybrook Southdowns are the result of 55 years of breeding by three generations of the family with Jonathan’s grandfather, Frank Grantham, establishing the original Chailey flock in 1954 with Eartham stock.
Jonathan began his own Brook flock in 1988 with East Dean and Caesers stock. The two flocks were then combined on Frankās death in 1991, forming the Chaileybrook flock.
Now numbering 25 ewes, the flock is based on lines which combine the best Southdown blood from across the world, including English, French and New Zealand genetics.
This combination of types has produced the ultimate Southdown - long, lean and full of meat in the hindquarters and loin.
Recent success in the show ring has also been transferred to the sale ring, with the shearling ram Chaileybrook 06/0002 setting a new breed record in 2007 when he sold privately for £2250 to Jon Aisbitt, Haywards Heath.
Stock are regularly for sale with rams sold both privately and at pedigree and commercial sales across the UK. High quality females are also available in small numbers both privately and at sales.
